Cartonplast Italia launches the Exalite® product line using EconCore’s patented technology
Published on 23-06-2010
CARTONPLAST ITALIA – a leading company in the processing of plastics by extrusion – has launched Exalite®, an innovative polypropylene sheet which offers excellent mechanical properties while using a minimal amount of material resources.
Cartonplast and EconCore concluded a license agreement for the packaging market in Europe in 2009. This enabled Cartonplast to use EconCore’s technologies to continuously produce honeycomb cores, which increases productivity significantly. After the signing of the license agreement Cartonplast and EconCore worked closely together to optimize the product design and build up the production line.
The Exalite® production line allows panel length to be adapted to suit different applications, with variable width up to 1400 mm. Compared with traditional honeycomb core panels the innovative manufacturing process offers a higher stability, more flexibility and a lig
hter weight because of the lower use of raw materials.
During the press conference in Munich, Germany, where the product was officially launched the following 3 key properties from Exalite® were highlighted by Cartonplast: recyclable, reusable and environmental friendly. Mario Grillo, CEO of Cartonplast Italia, explained the material’s versatility: «Without a doubt the production system behind Exalite® is extremely flexible, with panel length adapted to suit subsequent applications and variable width up to 1400 mm.» And with regard to the theme clean technology, Grillo added: « the Exalite® panel meets strict low environmental impact production criteria imposed by Cartonplast, such as limited use of water, low emissions and total recycling of processing residues. »

EconCore is looking back at 3 successful days at the JEC Show in Paris. The JEC Show is one of the world’s leading trade shows for the composites industry with approximately 1000 exhibitors and for this year a record attendance of 27.500 visitors. The use of composite materials is increasing by new environmental and energy requirements and the continuous search for ever lighter and stronger materials.
The JEC was an excellent platform to meet with existing and potential business partners and promote our innovative products and technologies in the composite market. Customers from the automotive, packaging, furniture and other industries have taken the opportunity to see and evaluate our samples in a variety of thicknesses and cell sizes.
For the first time The
rmHex Waben GmbH, the newly established EconCore licensee from Germany, was co-exhibiting at the JEC. ThermHex Waben is focusing on the production of PP honeycomb cores whereas EconCore continues to offer R&D services and technologies for automated continuous production of honeycomb cores and sandwich panels.
During the show EconCore launched its first 100% bio-based composite panel, which was produced with the patented ThermHex technology. By combining our cost efficient production technology with renewable materials, EconCore introduced a sandwich panel with excellent mechanical properties, while still being cost competitive to traditional sheet materials.
On the stand a light weight box, produced by Gifu Plastics - one of our first licensees – was presented and attracted great interest, specially from companies in the packaging industry looking for high quality reusable packaging applications.
